Cash is flowing into the smart grid security sector, but the increased investment is not being matched by a strong security mindset, a report from IDC finds. IDC analyst Usman Sindhu says throwing money at the problem is typical of utilities executives, for whom security traditionally has been an afterthought. Sindhu recommends that utilities create a new position, that of chief information security officer, to orchestrate the necessary alignment of security practices across the enterprise. "This position would be more strategic than tactical, which is what's required in today's environment," he said.
