Feds issue settlement payment to NPPD over used-fuel storage costs

The Department of Energy paid an initial $60.5 million to cover the Nebraska Public Power District's used fuel-storage expenses at its Cooper Nuclear Plant in Nebraska through 2009. "Costs for used fuel storage needs between 2010 through 2013 will be submitted annually to the [Department of Energy] and settlement payments will be determined accordingly," NPPD said in a statement.
