China targets fake drugs and bribery in nationwide probe

China's State Food and Drug Administration has announced a six-month national campaign aimed at shutting down illegal online drug retailers and stopping sales of fake traditional Chinese medicines. The action comes days after authorities accused GlaxoSmithKline of bribing doctors and health officials to try to boost sales of its drugs by using almost $500 million that was transferred through travel agencies and consultants. China has conducted campaigns in the past to stop false advertising and the sale of counterfeit drugs.
