Commentary: Derivatives no more dangerous than bank lending

Matthew Klein writes that the idea of derivatives being more dangerous than bank lending is only a myth, and that risks to short-term funding for financial institutions are actually the real danger to the financial industry. Derivatives, he writes, are only dangerous in the ways they allow banks to increase leverage, and thus make themselves more dependent on that funding.
