Contractor to redo some concrete on Ore.'s $1.49B light-rail project

Some newly placed concrete on a railroad overpass for the $1.49 billion light-rail line in Oregon between Portland and Milwaukie is being replaced this week due to quality-control problems. Crews from Cascade Bridge, a subcontractor on the project, are currently chipping away at the defective concrete on the Tillamook Overpass. "It was a really hot day, and the concrete mix was not as fluid as they would have liked. As they place the concrete, they vibrate all the rebar to get it all in, and when they stripped off the forms, it was still porous," explained TriMet engineer John Lostra.
