EHRs are key for ensuring safety of patients, health IT chief says

The government is creating standards designed to improve communication between EHR systems, says Dr. Farzad Mostashari, national coordinator for health IT. He says that while implementing EHRs requires careful planning and training, "the best thing we can do for patient safety is to get off paper."
