Flash-cooling technology seen as key to Mach 5 space plane

Cooling air by 1,000 degrees Centigrade in the split second before it enters a jet engine could readily enable aircraft to exceed Mach 5, according to U.K. aerospace company Reaction Engines. The company says it has the technology in the form of thin pipes filled with condensed helium and is planning a 300-passenger space plane.
