FPL demolishes smokestacks to make way for $1.1B clean-energy plant

Florida Power & Light has imploded four smokestacks and four steel-boiler buildings to make way for a new $1.1 billion power plant at Port Everglades. Crews used 450 pounds of explosives to demolish the structures. Work on the new natural-gas facility is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2014, according to FPL spokesman Greg Brostowicz.
