Health care facilities benefit from shared drug-resistant infection data

Researchers developed an antibiotic-resistant infection database covering 17 hospitals and associated clinics in the Indianapolis area to track all methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant enterococci cases in the region through a health information exchange. "Antibiotic resistance is a regional problem. To address this, sharing infection data can enable coordinated regional infection control efforts," said Regenstrief Institute and Northwestern University scientist Dr. Abel Kho, who helped develop the registry.
