ITU: broadband standard could make 2014 debut

The broadband standard, which would enable quicker streaming of Ultra HD television video content without a fiber connection, has passed its initial approval stage and may be available in 2014, according to the International Telecommunication Union. The standard uses existing copper telephone wiring and can deliver download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, Loek Essers writes.
