Novel tau imaging agent detects brain tangles

Experimental tau radioligand F-18-T808 successfully identified pathologic tangles in a clinical trial patient. The male patient, who died of an unrelated pulmonary embolism two weeks after undergoing a PET scan using the agent, was found in an autopsy to have tau protein in his brain mirroring the imaging results.
