Sources: Apple boosts chip orders for iPad, iPhone

Ahead of this year's expected rollout of new iPad and iPhone models, Apple has nearly doubled its orders for chips in the current quarter compared with the second quarter, DigiTimes reports, citing sources in Apple's supply chain partners. Those sources say Q3 shipments of chips for the iPhone will reach 40 million units. Meanwhile, DigiTimes Research analyst Nobunaga Chai speculates that Apple is likely to choose GlobalFoundries or IBM as a silicon foundry, in addition to Samsung Electronics.
