AT&T outlines DIRECTV merger benefits for Senate panel

AT&T defended its proposed $49 billion merger with DIRECTV before the Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday, and Comcast did the same with its Time Warner Cable buyout. AT&T Senior Executive Vice President John Stankey said the deal would enable the telecom to more effectively compete with the larger cable companies.
