China may not attain goal of 5,000 MW offshore wind by 2015, officials said

China's goal of building 5,000 megawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2015 may not be attained, according to Li Junfeng, director general of the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation. The country so far has reached only 10% of the said capacity. Shi Pengfei, honorary chairman of the Chinese Wind Energy Association, said that the country is "more cautious" in developing offshore wind projects because "it's more risky and costly" compared to land-based wind and solar projects.
