Nurses and other health policy experts say the Affordable Care Act will transform the profession and the health care system, but it may be too soon to assess the full impact. Jean Johnson, dean of the George Washington University School of Nursing, said health outcomes could improve as more people receive care. Alice Benjamin, a clinical nurse specialist at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said heavier workloads for nurses are a valid concern, and it's important to remember that having too few nurses costs hospitals more in the long run.
