Security Council asks South Sudan to halt violence

The United Nations Security Council says it plans to take "appropriate measures" against the South Sudan government and rebels if violence isn't stopped and peace talks aren't restarted. The Security Council is "alarmed" by reports that both sides are continuing to purchases weapons despite a June deal to cease such buys.
