While a nationwide high-speed wireless broadband or WiMax network is a long way off, News Corp., through its subsidiary DirectTV, is carefully establishing the infrastructure to make a play to build the first such network in the U.S., columnist Diane Mermigas writes. The move could make News Corp., which owns the Fox Network, one of the few media companies to own both programming and its distribution infrastructure.
