Housing outlook remains uncertain

The housing market is, for the first time in more than two years, operating on its own, without government aid. The situation remains fragile, particularly after the homebuyer tax credit expired. Major indicators have declined, and it could be months before the housing outlook clears. Several major housing indicators soon will be released, and economists are expressing greater uncertainty about which way the market is moving.
