Dog treated for serious injuries after tangling with deer

A California dog suffered a herniated disc and a bruised spinal cord after an apparent deer attack. Veterinarians who examined Casper, a Labrador retriever, determined after an MRI that he did not require surgery, but the dog is taking a number of medications and undergoing physical therapy. Local animal experts said such attacks are uncommon and unexpected this time of year.
