Healthy expectant mothers who gained excess weight in the first half of pregnancy were more than twice as likely to deliver larger and fatter babies than those who did not, a study in Obstetrics and Gynecology indicated. "Expectant mothers and health professionals need to be aware of pregnancy weight-gain guidelines and follow them to build a foundation for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby," said lead author Margie Davenport.
