HHS reports lower-than-expected premiums under ACA next year

HHS released a report Thursday highlighting lower-than-expected premiums for plans sold through the Affordable Care Act's insurance exchanges in 2014. The report says monthly premiums will average $321, compared with the previous estimate of $391. The report, which covers 10 states and Washington, D.C., compares the rates to projections and not to current consumer prices. The ACA "is working to increase transparency and competition among health insurance plans and drive premiums down," HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said.
