It's time to tackle the root causes of high care costs, Ignagni says

The Affordable Care Act was designed to extend health insurance coverage to millions of Americans, but it addresses only part of what is needed to fix the American health care system, AHIP President and CEO Karen Ignagni told a Connecticut Health Council gathering this week. Ignagni says debate as the ACA was being developed focused heavily on health insurance premiums, but premiums are driven by the cost of medical care itself. She said insurers are doing their part to bring down costs, but stakeholders across the health care system must work together on solutions.
