Misidentifying dementia may lead to higher costs, study finds

Medicare costs increased when patients with vascular or Parkinson's disease-related dementia were misdiagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, researchers told the Alzheimer's Association International Conference. Dr. Ralph Nixon of New York University said the implications of a misdiagnosis include the missed opportunity for patients to get appropriate treatment.
