Mo. district to open hospital-based academy for 8th-graders

Springfield, Mo., schools are preparing to launch a new health sciences academy in a working hospital -- it is believed to be the first program of its kind nationwide. The program, set to open in August 2014, is expected to enroll about 50 eighth-grade students interested in a future career in the health care industry. Officials expect to work out details, logistics and renovations necessary for the program in the coming year.
