TIGTA finds problems with IRS identity theft program

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration says the Internal Revenue Service needs to improve its process for identifying tax-related identity theft. TIGTA audited the IRS's Taxpayer Protection Program, and while it found improvements this year, it also found many shortcomings. The IRS has agreed to implement TIGTA's recommended changes.
