Guidant cardiac device users may need replacements

As many as 28,000 people may need heart pacemaker replacements after Guidant announced that its cardiac devices contain defects. The seal in the pacemaker gradually degrades and lets moisture in, which has resulted in 69 reports of failures in nine models, and caused further criticism of the FDA's medical device safety monitoring.
