"Telesensing" could help save lives

New technology being developed by Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs would allow cell phones to read signals bounced off the body, such as the heaving of a rib cage, to monitor people's health. The technology, called telesensing, could be used for such health care purposes as preventing sudden infant death syndrome and diagnosing sleep apnea.
