Facial recognition will challenge location networks, Cuban argues

"Minority Report"-style passive face-recognition technologies are coming soon, and they're going to kill off Foursquare, argues Mark Cuban, who recently invested in a company developing such technology. "Rather than someone checking in to a specific application, we would already know you are there," he promises. But MG Siegler says he isn't so sure facial recognition is the next big thing, arguing that the technology Cuban is so excited about is still years from fruition, and social norms will have to shift radically before passive identification becomes an acceptable business model.
