Final rule on EHR certification targets data privacy concerns

A second final rule released Tuesday by HHS outlines the standards for certifying EHRs, including requiring the technology to add encryption and other functions designed to address data security issues. "The EHR certification rules are an outstanding opportunity for providers to revisit their privacy and security programs and improve the safeguards of health information," the Office for Civil Rights' director said.
