Industry leaders challenge Lautenberg's chemical bill

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., has proposed legislation that resembles the chemical-safety bill passed by the House in 2009. The proposal, called the Secure Chemical Facilities Act, adds provisions that would require additional protection and precautionary measures for the highest-risk chemical facilities. Industry trade groups, including the American Chemistry Council, have criticized the bill, saying it could hamper the industry and threaten the delivery of consumer goods, according to industry officials.
