AAFP supports bill to improve Medicare physician fee schedule

The AAFP said it supports the Accuracy in Medicare Physician Payment Act, which Board Chair Glen Stream, M.D., called a "long overdue" bill that could significantly change how Medicare pays physicians who provide quality, efficient health care. The bill, introduced by Rep. Jim McDermott, M.D., D-Wash., would supplement work of the Relative Value Scale Update Committee with an expert panel to oversee the valuation of physician services in Medicare and help correct distortions in the fee schedule.
