Safeway's continuing-operation income increased 22.1% in the second quarter compared with Q2 of 2012, despite a dip in sales and other revenue. Meanwhile, SUPERVALU's effort to become smaller and more efficient has paid off, with more traction in fiscal Q1 and a stock price that reflects the growth.
