Duke uses medical informatics to study community's health

Duke University launched Durham Health Innovations to conduct real-time epidemiologic studies on the Durham, N.C., community using medical informatics, including electronic health records, and geocoding. The partnership involves 10 projects that will focus on reducing mortality or disability from specific diseases, including asthma, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.
