White House moves faster than lawmakers on immigration reform

The White House, via executive orders, is working to shift immigration enforcement to employers as well as strengthen individual enforcement against undocumented workers who have criminal records. It is also moving ahead with a requirement that all federal contractors verify the status of their employees with the E-Verify system. Meanwhile, some Democratic lawmakers hope to introduce reform legislation by the end of the summer.
