Educator: Advocating for students transcends challenges, budget cuts

Peters, who is head of the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School in Brooklyn, N.Y., was attracted to the Montessori approach after 27 years of teaching because of its "undiluted respect for the child," he writes. Maintaining empathy and patience and acting as an advocate for students -- particularly those who struggle with disabilities or other challenges -- should be a priority for all educators, administrators and other adults, Peters writes.
