Engineer cites several maintenance problems before Gulf rig blast

Transocean's Deepwater Horizon rig experienced power outages, computer breakdowns and other maintenance issues before it blew up in the Gulf of Mexico, said Stephen Bertone, the rig's chief engineer, during a federal hearing into the incident. Bertone also recounted the last moments aboard the vessel, during which workers debated who was authorized to evacuate the rig and separate it from the well.
