A teacher-training academy in Pittsburgh is expected to mesh well with a training model in city schools known as Research-Based Inclusive System of Evaluation, or RISE. The academy's training will focus on induction, residency, certification and immersion. Officials say the academy is part of efforts to improve teacher training, recruitment and retention. New teachers will spend three weeks during the summer learning about the culture of the district and attend 10 days of training throughout the school year.
