Rep. Dingell: Effort to ban BPA is holding up food safety bill

The insistence by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., to include provisions banning bisphenol A from food packaging is hurting the prospects of a sweeping food safety bill in the Senate, according to Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., who authored the House version that passed last July. In a letter to Feinstein, Dingell said it would be "calamitous if a bill to protect American consumers from unsafe food cannot become law this year because of controversy over a single point."
