UAL's quarterly earnings soar past expectations

United Airlines beat Wall Street expectations for the second quarter, posting a profit of $430 million, excluding special charges. Led by growing international traffic, passenger revenue was up more than 25%, while cargo revenue surged 57%. The company reported net income of $1.29 per share, up from 19 cents per share in the year-earlier period.
