Ecolab's purchase of Nalco could benefit water, food chemistry

Ecolab will add water-treatment properties to its business by purchasing Nalco for $5.4 billion while taking on about $2.7 billion in Nalco debt, the company said. An analyst noted the companies' shared interest in water chemistry, and Ecolab CEO Douglas Baker said water treatment will be "a key future growth segment for us."
