Workers' comp e-mail causes controversy

A Los Angeles lawyer is urging doctors who evaluate injured workers for the state workers' compensation program to oppose Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's re-election. In an e-mail, attorney Lawrence Stern asks doctors for donations to "help us get rid of Arnold" and warned them that workers' comp attorneys would not use doctors who don't contribute. The e-mail is causing concern for some doctors who work as workers' comp examiners and rely on injured employees' lawyers and insurers for business. A group representing lawyers for injured workers condemned the e-mail message as "totally unaceptable."
