Texas officials last week gave the go-ahead for a $4.9 billion project that would make it by far the leading state for wind power in the U.S. The money will build transmission lines to carry about 18,000 megawatts of power from wind farms in West Texas to urban areas throughout the state. "We will add more wind than the 14 states following Texas combined," said Paul Hudson of the Texas Public Utility Commission. "I think that's a very extraordinary achievement."
