Bill is aimed at protecting drinking-water systems from attack

A House bill introduced this week would require the Environmental Protection Agency to set up risk-based performance standards for community water systems that serve more than 3,300 people and other systems considered vulnerable to attack. The Drinking Water System Security Act addresses the possibility of terrorists poisoning drinking water and also the possibility that chemicals used to disinfect the water could be used in weapons of mass destruction.
