Louisiana merges schools for children with visual, hearing disabilities

The Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired is in the process of moving to the 116-acre campus of the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge. Although the schools will keep their identities, officials anticipate the consolidation will save the state $3 million this fiscal year. The schools will share a cafeteria and health center, and staffing will be trimmed in shared services such as security, maintenance and human resources.
