More emphasis needed on mental health nursing careers

Mental health is a spectrum and everyone falls at a different spot between wellness at one end and illness at the other, says Brenda Patzel, associate professor of nursing at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. She says it's challenging to motivate students to consider a career in mental health, but hopes the doctor of nursing practice degree will help raise awareness of holistic nursing, especially in mental health care.
