Groups want energy-use standard for utilities

Fifty-seven groups on Wednesday asked U.S. senators putting together an energy-and-climate bill to include provisions for an energy-efficiency standard on utility companies. The groups are calling for a mandate to have utilities reduce energy usage by at least 1% annually in 2012, with the standard rising gradually by 2020.
