Study examines rates of pediatric CAP-associated complications

A study found national hospitalization rates for systemic complications associated with community-acquired pneumonia decreased only for children below the age of 1 since the launch of heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in 2000. Researchers also noted that rates of CAP-related local complications increased in all pediatric age groups.
