Union Pacific, Illinois unite on high-speed rail plans

Union Pacific and Illinois have reached an agreement to build high-speed rail over shared tracks between Chicago and St. Louis. Work on the 110-mph line -- funded in part by stimulus dollars -- is slated to begin in September. Meanwhile, in Virginia, high-speed rail plans received overwhelming support from the public at a recent hearing. "We are not going to be able to pave our way out of congestion," said Danny Plaugher, executive director of Virginians for High-Speed Rail. "We need to make high-speed rail a reality."
