We need hard work, not big ideas

America's love affair with dazzling innovations and visionary breakthroughs is endangering humanity, writes Auden Schendler, the executive director of sustainability at Aspen Skiing Co. Tackling climate change requires timely action, not technological fixes, Schendler argues, and means America must seek "not new ideas and technological innovation but a regrounding in brass tacks dirty fingernail implementation of what we already know, coupled with enormously hard work almost literally for its own sake."
