Analysis: Plastic-to-energy systems exhibit promising developments

The advances made by Dow Chemical in using recycled plastics to produce energy and Braskem's investment in a plastic-recycling facility reflect the increasing progress of plastic-to-energy technologies, writes chemical analyst Doris de Guzman. "The opportunities for tapping into the embodied energy of nonrecycled plastics are tremendous. Industrial scrap and municipal solid waste are cost-effective, abundant sources of energy for businesses or communities," said Steve Russell, vice president of plastics at the American Chemistry Council.
